Brief History of the Lebanese Moslem Association

The LMA is a community based not-for-profit welfare organization established in 1962 by a group of Lebanese immigrants seeking to provide welfare, social, representative and religious services to the Muslim Community in Australia.

Once established, they set out to unify the community with a common place of worship and in 1972 their efforts resulted in the construction of Australia�s largest mosque.

Aims and Objectives

- To provide religous advice and successfully meet the religous needs of our community

- To facilitate settlement for the Muslim community and ensure their harmonious participation and contribution to Australia's multicultural   society.

- To provide the Muslim community with the appropriate skills needed as participants in the society.

- Promote community self reliance through enhancement of the community structure and support network.

- To provide structures to meet the settlement of disadvantaged members of the Muslim community

- Raising Awareness within the community of the services which are available through mainstream bodies.

Muslim Clerics

The LMA also employs Muslim Clerics to provide the community with the necessary religious guidance in all matters of life. These clerics are accessed by large numbers of the Australian community living in NSW.

The LMA also accommodates Sheikh Taj Eldine El Hilali and the Representative of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Yahya Safi. The Clerics are housed in offices located in Lakemba Mosque.
