NATIONAL MOSQUE OPEN DAY:

A HUGE SUCCESS!

National Mosque Open Day (NMOD) is an annual LMA-supported event which sees several mosques around Australia open their doors simultaneously to all members of the community – regardless of their religious beliefs.

This year’s event was held on Saturday October 29 and the feedback that we have received from participating mosques and members of the community has been nothing but positive.

Masjids involved in this year’s NMOD included: Lakemba Mosque, Cabramatta Mosque, Parramatta Mosque, Young Mosque, Omar ibn Khattab Mosque (Marion Mosque), Palmerston Islamic Centre, Riverdale Mosque and Masjid al Salam Logan City.

A massive crowd was in attendance at Lakemba Mosque for LMOD – the first time the event has been run on site at Australia’s largest and most famous masjid since 2019 (due to COVID.)

As always, the local community was out in force to support the Day – with the smiling faces of the hundreds of children present testimony to the fact that a great time was had by all.

We are delighted to report that two visitors to Lakemba Mosque’s LMOD took their Shahada on the day – declaring that they believe (as all Muslims do) that there is only one God, Allah SWT – and that the Prophet Muhammad SAW is his final Messenger.

The LMA would like to acknowledge the many dignitaries and special guests (including our resident and visiting Sheikhs and Imams) who took time out of their busy schedules to attend NMOD at Lakemba Mosque, as well as Campsie Police Area Command and Lakemba Fire and Rescue.

Visitors from the political sphere included Tony Burke MP (Federal Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations), Mark Coure MP (NSW Minister for Multiculturalism and Minister for Seniors); Jihad Dib MP (NSW Shadow Minister for Emergency Services and Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change), Sophie Cotsis MP (NSW Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations and Shadow Minister for Work, Health and Safety), Canterbury-Bankstown mayor Khal Asfour, Deputy Mayor Bilal El-Hayek and other local Council members.

The fact that so many politicians from the various spheres were present shows the excellent relationship that exists between the LMA and all three levels of government.

Events such as this do not come together without a lot of hard work by the LMA board, management, staff and our band of youthful and enthusiastic volunteers, as well as our National Mosque Open Day at Lakemba Mosque sponsors.
