As one of the largest Muslim Community organisations in Australia, the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) provides multiple social, educational, recreational and welfare services to a wide demographic of the community.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Smoking Cessation Counsellor to join a new team that aims to deliver a unique Tobacco Control Clinical service to the community. The clinic aims to reduce rates of Tobacco by supporting members who wish to reduce their nicotine intake by providing the latest in Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), CO monitoring, counselling, education and awareness.

The Smoking Cessation Counsellor (or Tobacco Control Clinician) will be an integral part of the newly established Tobacco Control Clinic and will be expected to provide Nicotine Replacement Therapy, CO Monitoring, Strategy Reduction Development, Counselling & Case Support. This will be in addition to maintaining client records, contribution to the clinic’s policies & procedures, reporting and co-designing educational programs to raise awareness around smoking cessation. The therapist will work alongside other clinicians, doctors and community workers based at the LMA using a multi-disciplinary approach to support clients.

The LMA’s Health department is seeking a passionate and experienced social worker or psychologist to take on the role. The ideal candidate would have a background in Tobacco cessation or drug and alcohol intervention.

For those that do not have a background in Tobacco cessation but have a background in health and wish to embark on a new career, love to work with people and are passionate about helping others reduce the harms of Tobacco may also apply. Candidates would need to be bilingual in both English and Arabic.

Training on the latest NRT strategies will be provided to the successful candidate alongside, peer support and ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.

On offer to the successful applicant is a 12 month full-time contract starting immediately where possible; a remuneration package commensurate with professional experience will be offered.
