Our Community,
Our Future
ABOUT THE LMA
As Australia's oldest Islamic non-profit organisation, the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) has been serving communities since 1962. With over 1,000 members and 40 staff delivering 400 initiatives, our reach extends throughout NSW through three mosques and strategic partnerships.
LMA's management of Lakemba Mosque, one of Australia's largest Islamic centres, serves thousands weekly and over 100,000 during major events. Our established presence and continuous adaptation ensure we meet evolving community needs across the region.
As we continue to grow, the LMA is dedicated to evolving in tandem with our community, ensuring we effectively meet its diverse needs and aspirations.
Our History
The Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) was established in 1962 by a group of Lebanese immigrants, to provide social, religious, educational and recreational services for the Muslim community. In 1972 the construction of the Imam Ali bin Abi Taleb Mosque was completed in Lakemba, NSW, and would go on to become a defining establishment of the Australian Muslim Community.

Our vision is to see a thriving Australian community that makes a difference globally.
We are dedicated to empowering and uniting Australian Muslims, helping them to take an active role in creating a brighter, more connected world for all.
Our Mission
Our main objective is to nurture resilience and inclusivity within the Australian Muslim community. We are committed to empowering individuals to reach their full potential, fostering leadership and strength at every level.
By promoting social harmony in Australia’s diverse landscape, we support migrants, refugees, and charitable causes both locally
and internationally.
Core Focus
We aim to strengthen and sustain vibrant Muslim communities across Australia, empowering them to thrive. By enhancing infrastructure and networks, we promote community independence and support the active contributions of Australian Muslims to the nation’s economic, intellectual, and social landscape.
We also provide practical support for disadvantaged community members facing ongoing challenges while working nationally to safeguard and advance the interests of Australian Muslims.
60 Years of Community
For over 60 years, the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) has proudly served the community, fostering a strong sense of unity, support, and growth. From our humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of the Australian Muslim community, we have been dedicated to empowering individuals, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting inclusivity.
