COMMUNITY STATEMENT

The Australian Muslim community is deeply saddened and horrified to learn this morning of the explosion which occurred in the
Port area of Beirut.

We ask the Australian community to pray for the souls who have passed away in this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those who lost loved ones and we pray for the recovery of those injured.

Lebanon is a country in devastation and continues to face untold hardships and catastrophes and has a history of corruptive forces that have destabilised the country. This latest incident highlights the dire need for international assistance. The LMA is working to assist and support the people of Lebanon during this crisis.

Samier Dandan, the president of the LMA, said, “Today is a test of our humanity; we call on all people of goodwill to stand together in solidarity to ensure the values of peace and safety guide our collective response.”

We ask the Lebanese people to heed the urgent call for blood donations at Lebanese Red Cross blood transfusion centers in Lebanon. There is an urgent need for all blood types.
